United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd ("UOBM") is a licensed Authorized Depository Member and participant of BNM RENTAS (Real Time Electronic Transfer of Funds and Securities System). UOBM Custody in Malaysia which is under the UOB Group was started in 1984. UOBM’s wholly owned subsidiary Nominee companies provides securities clearing, settlement and safekeeping in Malaysia under UOBM Nominees (Tempatan) Sdn Bhd ("TEMPATAN") and UOBM Nominees (Asing) Sdn Bhd ("ASING"). Both nominee companies are “Authorised Nominees” and “Exempt Authorised Nominees” under Rules of Bursa Malaysia and eligible custodians under paragraph 47C (10) (d) of the Securities Industry Act 1983 (“SIA”).

We provide Custody Servcies to owners of securities that are held securely and that their rights as the beneficial owners are protected and safeguarded at all times. Custody Services provided by UOBM typically include the clearing and settlement, safekeeping, and reporting of customers securities, cash movement and also accept Money Market Placements on behalf of clients. We also provide corporate action, income processing and proxy services related to the securities held with us.

We safekeep and hold securities like Stocks/Shares and Bonds on behalf of clients for local and foreign markets.

UOBM Custody does not support crypto or Digital Assets. For the time being, under the Securities Commission Framework for Digital Assets, licenses are only issued to Digital Asset Operators that operates a Digital Asset Exchange as well the platform that allows Issuance Exchange Offerings ("IEO").

We cater for Corporate Accounts only. For individuals, you may be required to approach our Business Units for assistance at our branches all over Malaysia. In order to open a custody security account, you will need to determine the type of asset which you wish to safekeep namely Stocks/shares or Bonds and whether it is locally traded securities or foreign securities in which markets across the world.

Documents required are listed as follows:
• Memorandum and Articles of Association
• Latest Form 24 (List of shareholders)
• Latest Form 49 (List of Directors and Company Secretary)
• Latest Form 44 (Registered Office)
• Certification of Registration / Incorporation
• IDs of the Authorized signatories / Approved Persons
• IDs of the Directors
• Board Resolution (Open account with UOBM and Authorised Signatories
• NRIC for individual sub account ( CTC by BU with designation and not exceeding 6 months)

The followings documents are also required :
- Account opening instruction via SWIFT MT599 or official letter via email will be required
- Beneficiary Owner Declaration Form (For opening of CDS account to safekeeping local stocks/shares only)
- Custodian Agreement
- Indemnity letter
- Fees schedule

Please be advised the entity either TEMPATAN or ASING, will be based on company registration documents/incorporation, citizenship and Nationality for individual.
Upon submission of the above documents, it will be routed to our internal KYC team (Know Your Customer) for verification and typically will take 5 business days for opening of custody security account.

Typically 5 to 10 business days provided that complete documentations are in place for our KYC to be performed.

Custody or Pledged account as collateral for any loan facility.

A CDS account is an account to be opened with BURSA for local Malaysian listed stocks/shares. Central Depository System (“CDS”) is a system that is fully owned and operated by Bursa Malaysia Depository Sdn Bhd (“Bursa Depository”), which provides central book keeping of securities and facilitates the settlement of securities transactions in a scripless manner.

BNM RENTAS implemented Segregated Securities Account for MYR Bonds in 2018. For all Corporation, opening a Segregated Security Account (SSA) with the LEI (Legal Entity Identification) is required. Client is required to register for the LEI prior to opening of the Segregated Security Account (SSA).

Yes. For UOBM Custody Security Account, only one account is required for your Stocks/Shares and Bonds, (for both local and foreign assets).

Clients will be charged monthly custody fee based on the Total Asset under Custody (AUC) at a very competitive rate which is available on request. Other charges includes transaction fees and out of pocket expenses which will be debited on daily basis. Client can contact our Relationship Managers for a estimated quotation based on client's volume and frequency of trade and markets invested in.

All fees are charged in MYR.

A minimum charges of RM30.00 will be imposed (based on month end portfolio valuation).

To close a custody security account, all holdings has to be transferred out ie. Zero holdings and client will need to provide us a written instruction.

It is a form to be filled by client to declare as non taxpayer of United States ("US"). W8BEN form allows client to be exempted from tax by US for income sourced from US.

FEP stands for Foreign Exchange Policy issued by the Central Bank of Malaysia. All residents are to fill in and complete the FEA form and declaration when converting MYR to any foreign currencies.

Trade Settlement

Client will need open a MYR cash account with us so that funding of any purchase of trades can be debited and for sales, the proceeds can be credited.

Main currencies are USD, GBP, AUD, HKD, CNY and SGD. Others like PHP, IDR. JPY and THB are also supported.

Our local market is Bursa for securities and Bonds in RENTAS. Our Global reach is through our Global Custodian that operates globally. Popular markets are US, Singapore, South Korea, China and Hong Kong. We also have clients investing in markets like Indonesia, Phillipines and Thailand too.

Funding and settlement instructions of trades has be done by T+1 or even before.

We provide foreign currencies conversion at competitive rates . A MYR cash account would have to be maintained for charges and other fees.

At the end of each day, a security movement and cash movement report will be sent electronically via email. We also provide a month end Security Statement via email.

Corporate Action

Corporate Action Events of securities refer to events initiated by a company via an announcements to the market exchange that bring changes or impact to its securities, such as its stock or bonds that requires shareholders to be notified. These events like Corporation Annual General Meetings ("AGM") and Extraordinary General Meetings ("EGM"), dividend declaration, voluntary and mandatory events and others like share splits, bonus issue and rights subscriptions.

Dividend, interest & coupon payments will normally be collected and distributed to investors on specified payment dates and credited to client accounts once we receive the same from the paying agents.
